Brandon Woelfel Attempt 2

Brandon Woelfel Attempt 2

This is the second time I’m doing a photo shoot in an attempt to make something magical like Brandon Woelfel. If you haven’t checked out his work yet, it’s amazing and you should go check it out right now. I like a lot of these photos much better than I like the ones from my first shoot with Dayron. This time I took Micaela out to the desert and made her my model. Here are some shots from that shoot.

Camera: Canon Rebel T3i
Lens: 18-55mm (Canon kit lens)
Editing Software: Adobe Lightroom
Model: Micaela

I liked both of these photos a lot, but I found that they ended up being too dark. I tried lightening them in post, but I lost a lot of quality after a while, and they ended up not working. I tend to get too over excited and shoot well into the night, meaning that the photos at the tail end of the shoot are just unworkable. Maybe one day I’ll figure out how to fix them enough to save them, but for now, they’re just too dark.

In the above two photos, I tried to focus more on her hands than on her face, but apparently my lens just wasn’t having it. It did make the lights out of focus, which was mainly what I was trying to do, but either way, I’m not certain how I feel about them.

These are essentially the same photo. One is just in focus and one is out of focus. I edited them in totally different ways. Personally, I always lean toward the more blue tones, so I prefer the second photo; however, I think they both came out nice. I love the way the lights lit up her face in these. They were really fun to play around with the highlights and shadows.

These also were shot with the intent of making the background out of focus. When I lightened these photos up a bit, the background became very grainy. I am not sure how to avoid this yet. Because I did want it out of focus, but I didn’t want her to appear pixelated. I’m going to have to do some work in this department to figure out how to avoid this problem in the future.
